Five Things Friday

Friday! Long weekend! I have to work tomorrow and Monday, but such is the life of a retail store employee, right? Oh well, we’re still going to have fun this weekend.

  1. Yesterday was quite the exciting day! I had some errands to run so I dropped Nathan off at work and on my way back, maybe 1/4 mile from my apartment, I almost got into a huge accident [not my fault at all]. It was one of those times where as I slammed on my brakes and horn, the thoughts going through my mind were along the lines of “I wonder how bad this accident is going to be.” Thankfully my brakes are [maybe were, now] amazing and I stopped about 1 foot away from t-boning the the guy that decided to swerve and do a u-turn right in front of me. All is well, but I was definitely shaken up! If that didn’t wake me up, I don’t know what would.
  2. Once I did get around to my errands, I went to the store to stock up on ingredients for a homemade porchetta. Nathan’s been talking about making one at home since we had it in Italy. We currently have 10 lbs of pork in the fridge. No, we’re definitely not vegetarians!Porchetta

Oooooh this is gonna be good!

  3. With my crazy morning I decided I needed a nice treat for lunch. I’d been eyeing the freshly-made sushi at Berkeley Bowl since the first day we went and I finally got some. Salmon with avocado in brown rice and edamame. I also made my own spicy sriracha “mayo” [aka greek yogurt] for dipping. I’m not a soy sauce-dipper.. never have been!

  4. I mentioned the other day that my peanut butter was dwindling. Nothing a little Vitamix action can’t fix! And because I can’t leave well enough alone, there’s a little chia seed in the mix this time. That also means licking the Vitamix was my afternoon snack haha!

  5. Tomorrow we’re heading into the city for dinner, drinks, and live music. When Nathan came out to SF last year, he went to The Saloon with a friend of his. He said it was basically SF’s equivalent to our favorite live music bar in Baltimore, Cat’s Eye. We used to head over for some music after a little bit of this..

Max’s special Big Ass Draft.. every Friday $5 for 32 oz!

We’ve been meaning to go to The Saloon since we moved out here and I’m psyched to finally head over!

Well, I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend.. enjoy all of the cookouts, sunshine, and time with friends and family!

What are your big plans for the weekend?

Five Things Friday

Happy Valentine’s Day! Have any fun plans for tonight? We have done good stuff coming up in the next week.

  1. My parents will be here in less than a week! I realize I mentioned this yesterday, but can you tell I’m excited?!
  2. I stocked up on our Valentines Day dinner/dessert ingredients yesterday. On the menu:
Appetizer: Truffle gouda with crackers and balsamic jam [from Italy!] .. Entree: Seared lamb with a cherry port sauce, Moroccan rice with pistachio and dried apricot, and roasted rainbow carrots .. Dessert: Cheesecake squares. But I can’t tell you the flavor because that’s a surprise for Nathan. There may or may not be pictures to share later πŸ˜‰
  3. I miss the snow a little bit but I have to admit it was awfully nice to be able to take a walk this afternoon when it was 65 degrees.

My parents just got a little dusting.
  4. Nathan surprised me last night by picking me up after work to go out to a point near our place and watch the sunset.

It was a really crisp, clear night and such a nice way to end the day. Doesn’t hurt that he’s cute too!
  5. This weekend is Belgian Beer Fest at Max’s. It is, by far, our favorite bar in Baltimore and Belgian Beer Fest is the best. Definitely missing that this weekend. We’re going to try to make up for it this weekend and while my parents are here.. I’ll report back.

What are your Valentines Day plans?
Are you being hit by the crazy weather?

Monday Already?!

Wow, that weekend kind of flew by, huh? I’ve definitely noticed the days getting shorter and I’m already missing summer. I had to take advantage of the last weekend of summer and we had a marvelous time!

Friday night, we went for dinner and drinks with our friends, Adam and Jessie.

Jessie Heavy Seas Ale House Baltimore Maryland MD

Blog, meet Jessie. Also note my navy dress/yellow sweater combo and her yellow shirt/navy sweater combo. Not planned.

We actually go out with them quite a bit, but apparently I’m really bad at taking pictures of more than my food or drink. Not this time!

Despite my original plan to get a Musket Ball, I asked for the bartender’s recommendation and ended up with the Lost Cargo. The drink was pretty good, but if you happen to get a sip without any of the toasted spices, it was a little bland. There’s always next time..

Lost Cargo Cocktail Heavy Seas Baltimore Maryland MD

Lost Cargo – Peg Leg Imperial Stout, bourbon, Fonseca port, old fashioned bitters, & toasted spices.

Beer Nuts Heavy Seas Baltimore Maryland MD

The greatest beer nuts in all the land! Glazed with an amber syrup made from their beer.

Charcuterie Cheese Heavy Seas Baltimore Maryland MD

Charcuterie and cheese. Need I say more?

We followed that up with dinner at My Thai. The food was wonderful and they also had a fun list of cocktails! I’d already started my night with a cocktail so it’s not like I could switch to beer or wine at that point, right?

Eye Opener My Thai Baltimore Maryland MD

The Eye Opener – Woodford Reserve Whiskey, Thai Organic Honey, Cucumber Liquer, and soda water

Chicken Shrimp Bean Thread Noodle My Thai Baltimore Maryland MD

Pad Woon Sen – Chicken and shrimp with bean thread noodles, egg, and veggies

And what’s one more drink? Off to Oliver Speck’s! While I’ve heard lack-luster reviews about their food, the drinks did not disappoint!

Ziggy Piggy Oliver Specks Baltimore Maryland MD

Ziggy Piggy – Pig’s Nose Scotch, Domaine Canton, muddled fresh plum & mint, simple syrup, ginger beer, & candied bacon

Saturday we went over to the Fells Point Farmers’ Market for the first time ever. Peter’s Inn sells their famous BLT at the market and Nathan has been dying to try it. We made it just in time; he got the very last BLT of the day and we quickly learned why they’re so famous. All of the ingredients were so fresh and I’ve never seen a sandwich so loaded up on bacon! I can’t believe I forgot to snap a picture..

I did, however, remember to document German beer fest at Max’s. Nathan and I shared a bunch of samples and treated my cousin’s boyfriend to a little 1 liter birthday gift πŸ˜‰

I finished off the weekend with tons of food prep for the week! I made the Healthy Jalapeno Sweet Potato Chicken Chili but swapped out the chicken for ground turkey that we had. I also added extra tomatoes and some zucchini. I might have made enough to last us through the winter! I also made some lemon basil tofu, roasted a spaghetti squash, and packed all of my meals and snacks to take to work with me for an extra early Monday morning.

All in all, I’d say it was a successful weekend! Is it Friday yet? πŸ˜‰

Did you do anything fun over the weekend?

MIMM Weekend Photo Dump

Is it just me or do weekend days go much faster than weekdays? I feel like Monday always sneaks up on me.. 26 years and I’m still not used to it! We had a fun, pretty relaxing weekend that we kicked off with my cousin at the Orioles game. Always fun to be at the park, especially for a win!

Pregaming for the O’s game! They poured my beer twice so I got a freebie.. hate when that happens! πŸ˜‰

Lunch on Saturday. I added mango and avocado to my chick pea tuna salad and it was delicious! I love all of the colors.

Maxs Taphouse Beer Fells Point Baltimore Maryland MD

Hit up our favorite bar in Baltimore, Max’s, for an evening brew on Saturday. They have a crazy long list and I decided to go for some samples instead of 1 full beer.. I just couldn’t decide!

Herbed Chicken White Wine Vegetable Sauce Maras Pasta

Nathan made a killer dinner Sunday. Herbed chicken over pasta with a light tomato, vegetable, white wine sauce. Yum!

Hope you had a great weekend too! Back to the daily grind..
