Has a week ever passed you by and you’re completely baffled as to where it went and what you actually did? Yea, that’s where I am right now. But it’s Friday so that’s always a good thing. I do love my weekends!
I’ve been really craving bread [thanks, Passover] so last night I made a loaf of Elana’s Paleo Bread. It didn’t make it the full 2 hours to cool, whoops! No worries though, it still sliced perfectly and was just as delicious as I remember. I really need to try more of her recipes!
Yesterday I went into Athleta.. always a mistake because I want everything! Especially this top. It’s next on my list.. good thing Nathan’s birthday is coming up soon. I get presents too, right?
I made a crazy awesome salad for lunch yesterday. It was pretty much crazy awesome because of the sweet potato. I have a strange habit of only buying one sweet potato at a time.. probably because I could eat tons of sweet potato at a time so maybe I’m just subconsciously looking out for myself haha.
Marshalls is my favorite place to get snacks and fun flavored coffees. The other day I found some white cheddar Chia Pop. It’s not completely gone, but let’s just say it’s on its last leg. I have a popcorn problem. #fail
When I got my new phone a little over a year ago, I got it from Best Buy and being accident-prone, decided to get the Geek Squad protection. A few weeks ago, my power button stopped working so I put that $10/month to use and traded in my phone.. for a refurbished phone. I’m now on my 4th phone and for a few days had to use a loaner phone. Fingers crossed that this phone works out but bottom line, I would not recommend Geek Squad [I just typed squash.. I have a squash problem too!] protection.
I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend and hitting up the farmers’ market tomorrow.
Is it just me or did this week fly? Not that anyone ever complains that it’s Friday.. besides, I have a fun weekend ahead!
Tonight we’re headed into San Francisco to meet up with a few Fit Approach friends and head to a sketch comedy show. I’m pretty excited. It’s been a while since we’ve been to a comedy show but it’s right up our alley.
Tomorrow I’m meeting up with Alyse[<– more Fit Approach love!] to go to a free VinBata class. It’s a combo of Vinyasa and Tabata.. I honestly have no idea what to expect but it should be fun! …..or wine?
Speaking of workouts, I mentioned yesterday that I’ve been taking a bit slower at the gym lately and trying to figure out what my body actually wants instead of just doing a workout. Turns out, yesterday when I woke up I had no desire to go to the gym. I did some [really lame] yoga that I found on HuluPlus.. I say really lame because it was a little too slow for what I was looking for and there were commercials. How relaxing, right?
I ended up getting really antsy as the day went on and decided to go for a GPS-less run around a nearby lake. Full disclosure: it was hard. For whatever reason, my asthma decided to act up and I was having trouble getting in some steady breathing, but I decided to feel it out and take my time. I ran about 3.25 miles and to my surprise, it was around a 7:50 pace! Woo! Plus, pretty flowers 😉
I’m pretty sure I completely forgot to mention the HIIT class I went to at Athleta last week taught by Erin, a trainer that I met at FitBloggin’ 2012 in Baltimore. She taught a kick ass [literally!] 6 am bootcamp and it was awesome so I knew to expect nothing less last week. She focused on sharing some moves that could be done anywhere, whether you’re at home, traveling, sitting at your kids baseball game, etc. I had a great time and it was so nice to catch up with her afterwards over a glass of wine [my only reason to go to P.F. Changs these days..] I also left with a new pair of capris that I pretty much love. If you’re in the bay area, I highly recommend checking out some of her classes!

Congratulations to Jessica B! Please email me with your mailing information so I can pass it on.
And I leave you with this.
Food for Thought
What are your plans this weekend?
Have you ever tried a VinBata class or something similar?
For my list of things that are important in life, family ranks #1. And maybe I’m biased but I’m pretty sure mine takes the cake.
Waking up to pictures like this one make my day.
She really is the cutest.
Don’t you just want to squeeze her?!
I have the best husband. Honestly, I know everyone feels that way but anyone that will drop anything to come be with you—without you asking—is someone worth holding onto. I’m a lucky gal.
He’s cute too.
I’m missing my family right now. I wish it were easier to go home but the reality is that it’s pretty darn pricey. Skype is the best and I love that I can see my parents so often.
This was nice too though.
I can’t wait till we go home in August. I’m already planning so many fun things.. my parents don’t even know! Labor day cookout? Orioles game? Let’s get to planning 🙂
Speaking of baseball, Nathan and I are headed to the A’s game on Sunday. We got some new gear to sport and it’s definitely going to be a good time. Definitely looking forward to the weekend with my best friend.
Weird, it’s feels like Tuesday. I guess that’s what happens when you have visitors mid-week. I swear, I never knew what day it was when my parents were here!
I had my coffee date with my mom yesterday. We skyped.. it’s certainly not the same as meeting at Peet’s but it’s better than nothing. Mmm those almond milk lattes are tasty..
I feel like a normal human being again. After a full day of eating like normal and drinking tons of water, my body only hates me a little bit. Ha! Kombucha and veggies are definitely my friends.
One of my faves.
Gimme all the veggies!
A super special email came through my inbox yesterday congratulating me on being accepted into the FitFluential Ambassador program! I’m really excited to have the opportunity to work with such an awesome company and be a part of an amazing community.
My new favorite way to keep gulping down water all day? A few drops of orange stevia. I honestly didn’t know what I was going to do with so much stevia at first, but now I can’t stop! I probably go through at least 15 travel mugs worth per day now.
Peppermint water, anyone?
Meal planning kind of went by the wayside while my parents were here. It’s been a good 2 weeks since I’ve had a solid plan but that’s going to change. Gimme all the sales and fun recipes! I’m making a game plan today for next week and it’s going to be good 😉 If you’re looking for help with weekly meal planning, send me an email!
That’s about it for this gal. I definitely will be taking the weekend to sleep in and relax. We only vacation at one speed and we’re beat!
Food for Thought
How do you go back to “normal” after indulging for a few days?
Happy Valentine’s Day! Have any fun plans for tonight? We have done good stuff coming up in the next week.
My parents will be here in less than a week! I realize I mentioned this yesterday, but can you tell I’m excited?!
I stocked up on our Valentines Day dinner/dessert ingredients yesterday. On the menu: Appetizer: Truffle gouda with crackers and balsamic jam [from Italy!] .. Entree: Seared lamb with a cherry port sauce, Moroccan rice with pistachio and dried apricot, and roasted rainbow carrots .. Dessert: Cheesecake squares. But I can’t tell you the flavor because that’s a surprise for Nathan. There may or may not be pictures to share later 😉
I miss the snow a little bit but I have to admit it was awfully nice to be able to take a walk this afternoon when it was 65 degrees.
My parents just got a little dusting.
Nathan surprised me last night by picking me up after work to go out to a point near our place and watch the sunset.
It was a really crisp, clear night and such a nice way to end the day. Doesn’t hurt that he’s cute too!
This weekend is Belgian Beer Fest at Max’s. It is, by far, our favorite bar in Baltimore and Belgian Beer Fest is the best. Definitely missing that this weekend. We’re going to try to make up for it this weekend and while my parents are here.. I’ll report back.
Another Friday, huh? Where does the time go?! I can’t believe it’s almost February. Wasn’t it just Thanksgiving?
Honestly, I’m kind of ok with a couple of weeks flying by right now. My parents are coming to visit in 2 1/2 weeks and I can’t wait! I probably see them more now than I did when I lived in Baltimore because of Skype, but it’s really not the same. It’s going to be nice to have them out here. Nathan and I keep trying to tell them, but I don’t think they realize how much food and drink is going to be involved in their trip 😉
Speaking of my parents, they just got me the best Hannuka/birthday/anniversary/whatever else gift.. the NASM personal trainer certification course! My book should be delivered next Tuesday and I fully plan on buckling down and getting it done. I’m really excited to start something new and I see this certification taking me in so many different directions in the future. Not to mention, I might love this post a little extra now. Thanks, Paige! [I also have a little deal for you if you’re interested in a NASM certification. Check it out below!]
I can’t be the only person that has trouble with rest days. I know I need at least 1 day off per week but my mind thinks it’s a good idea to always keep going. And then I stand up and realize that my legs hate me and don’t want to move at all. I’m not alone, right?
I look that cute when I pout too..
Wednesday I went to “Office Fitness” yoga with the SweatGuru team and it turned out to be exactly what I needed. I always go into yoga thinking I’m not sure if I really feel like going and by the end of the class, I feel so good. Seriously, not much beats the feeling at the end of a yoga class.
Such an awesome team, too!
Superbowl Sunday is upon us! Nathan and I are planning on staying in and doing the old pizza and wings bit, but a little more fancified, of course. I made a big batch of naan Wednesday so we’re going to do naan margherita pizzas and Korean BBQ wings. I’m sure I’ll figure out a way to get some veggies in there too.
I completely follow this logic.
Thanks to Julie’s NASM post, I was able to get a discount on my CPT course and I’m happy to be able to give you a discount offer too! I spoke to Michael Golembewski and he said that if you mention my name or blog when signing up, you will receive a 10% discount. Just give him a call at 602-383-1263 or email him at Michael.Golembewski@nasm.org and don’t forget to mention Barr & Table!
Food for Thought
If you could start a new career, what would you choose?
What are your plans for the Superbowl? Which team are you rooting for?
It’s been a week since we moved in and I’m happy to say that we’re really getting settled now. It feels so good to sleep in our bed, eat at a dining room table instead of the coffee table, and play in the kitchen again!
Speaking of playing in the kitchen, I broke out my brand new spiralizer and Vitamix this week. Holy cow I’m in love! I’ve spiralized zucchini and sweet potato so far and can’t wait to play with more. I also may never buy nut butter ever again. In 2 days I made toasted pecan butter and coconut cashew butter. Seriously. Fresh nut butter in 5 minutes? Amazing.
Couldn’t decide between the 2 nut butters.. why not both?!
Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Fried Plantain and Coconut Fried Quinoa with Macadamia Nuts – Half Baked Harvest
Speaking of Pinterest, I’m loving all of the easy storage and decoration ideas I’ve found! Did you know lentils aren’t just for eating? 😉
Crafty and delicious!
Last week, I won one of the Love Grown Foods 14 Days of Giveaways packages. I was far too excited to dig in before taking a picture, but this stuff is awesome! I’ve had it once before but I forgot how good it is. Perfect on top of my oats!
There’s coconut in there too!
I’m looking into getting a personal training certification. I plan on pursuing NASM since I’ve read so much about it and it seems like that is the most universally accepted certification. Thoughts? Tips? Think I’m nuts? 😉
This whole “new life” thing is pretty exciting and pretty scary. But I think I’m doing alright. That said, if anyone would like to solve all of my life’s mysteries and tell me what I should do with my life, I’m all ears! Haha happy Friday!!
Food for Thought
What is your favorite type of nut butter?
Have you gotten a personal training certification?
Holy moly, what a week! In my attempt to take a quick breath [but not really], let’s do a little week wrap up, shall we?
IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING! We’re no longer hotel dwellers! We finally moved out of the hotel Thursday morning, slept on an air mattress last night, and the movers are delivering our things today. To say that I’m excited would be an understatement. Six weeks in a hotel is entirely too long.
P.S. the internet is killer!
Funny story about entirely too long. Wednesday morning, someone staying in the hotel said to me “you were here last month, right?” Immediate thought was “oh great, now I’m being recognized..” Well, not only was he here last month, he’s been home and is now back. The lady that works the breakfast shift also disappointingly asked if I was leaving them as I was wheeling out a couple suitcases. It’s time.
My aunt and uncle got us a Vitamix for our wedding gift but we asked them to wait to order it until after we were moved in. Guess what was delivered on Thursday! Nut butters, smoothies, soups, and more.. HERE I COME! [Nut butters especially..]
Roasted Coconut Peanut Butter – Peachy Palate
ALSO! My mom ordered me a spiralizer! That was another kitchen gadget I planned on getting as soon as we were settled but she beat me to the punch 🙂 I’ve been pinning away at some veggie noodle recipes and I cannot wait to start trying them.
Roasted Butternut Squash Zucchini Pasta with Kale, Apricots, and Wheat Berries – Inspiralized
On Wednesday afternoon, Sweat Guru and OMPower teamed up for an Iron Yoga class. I absolutely love the idea of incorporating weights into yoga and was bummed that I couldn’t make it but with all things moving [yay!], it just wasn’t realistic. Luckily for me [and anyone else in the San Francisco area], they host classes every Wednesday at 2pm. Check it out!
Iron Yoga with The Sweat Guru and OMPower
Welp, I guess it’s time to unpack! I’m hardly disappointed that I have to unpack so many boxes. I just can’t wait to have my stuff again. And sleep in my own bed! YES!
Food for Thought
What is the longest you’ve ever stayed in a hotel?
Share your favorite Vitamix recipe with me!
IT’S HERE!! IT’S FRIDAY! Can you tell I’m excited to sleep in and enjoy my rest day tomorrow? 😉
Despite all of my excitement, the clouds were looking rather ominous this morning. I packed up my rain boots, threw on my rain coat, and ran out of the house to head to work. Without an umbrella. And then it started raining while I was on the bus. Luckily I only have about 5 1/2 blocks of walking to my office once I get off the bus and the rain wasn’t coming down too hard yet.
I’m going to miss this view..
I also broke out a new top today.. Target with the win!
Oh hey work bathroom! It’s a good thing I’m not awkward at all.
Speaking of new finds, Marshalls came up big again the other day. I may have gone in looking for a bandana for my Halloween costume and a new coat, but I came away with these bad boys.
Is this considered strange but good?
They’re seriously delicious and I could probably eat the whole container in one sitting.
Typically you find Cassia Cinnamon at the grocery store which isn’t even really cinnamon! This Ceylon Cinnamon is from Sri Lanka and is a great source of Manganese, Fiber, Calcium and Iron. As for the difference, you definitely get a slightly spicier scent, especially when you add it to something hot [like coffee or oats!]. That same spicier scent is also something that you taste; it’s almost like a cinnamony-er cinnamon which I love! I would definitely recommend trying it out if you’re a cinnamon-lover like I am. You can buy it here from Amazon.
I can’t believe it’s November 1 already. That means it’s moving month already! And that means this weekend starts the packing. Anyone have boxes? Send em my way! Oh, and bring yourself to help pack too 😉
Food for Thought
Would you try pickled, hot brussels sprouts?
Have you ever tried Ceylon Cinnamon before? Did you notice a difference?
Whoa, late post here but I just wanted to drop in, say hi, and give you all a quick update 🙂
Yesterday I made yet another variation on the pancakes! Say hello to Apple Pie. It was a good call.
Apple Pie Pancakes
– 3 tbsp coconut flour
– 2 tbsp almond flour
– 1/4 tsp baking powder
– 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
– 1 tsp cinnamon or apple pie spice
– 16 drops of liquid stevia
– Pinch of salt
– 7 egg whites
– 1/4 – 1/2 cup water
For my layers/topping, I mixed 1 tbsp peanut flour with 2 tbsp applesauce, 4 drops stevia, and water. I also used 1/2 shredded apple in between and on top. And the ultimate was topping it with the best apple quinoa granola from Michele’s.
This morning, my company had a little retreat and provided brunch. I wasn’t sure what to expect so, as always, I came prepared with some bars in my bag but I was more than pleasantly surprised to see the catering food truck from The Food Market. Nathan and I had been there once for dinner but I’ve been wanting to go for brunch since I saw their killer menu. It did not disappoint!
I had to try a little bit of everything!
Yesterday Alysia shared a metabolism experiment that she tested. This is something I’ve been thinking about doing for a while now but reading her thoughts on this convinced me! Tomorrow is the big day and I’ll be sure to report back.
Speaking of which, that means tomorrow is my rest day and to say I’m pysched would be an understatement! My workouts definitely got the best of me this week and I’m looking forward to resting up and feeling refreshed for next week!
