First things first, I totally forgot to choose a winner for my Pure Via giveaway on Friday. Congrats to Emily D! Shoot me an email at Brittany@BarrAndTable.com with your shipping in and I’ll make sure it gets sent out right away!
Yesterday the SIL headed back home and Nathan and I relaxed at home by ourselves for the first time in over a week. Heading back to Baltimore and then coming back with a guest was fun but we were really ready for some quiet time. Not to mention we couldn’t wait for some light, healthy, home-cooked meals! That said, we did Saturday right for my SIL’s last day with us.
For lunch we stopped at a little restaurant called Southie where we sat up at the bar watching the cooks and drooling over all the food. They were really friendly and happy to answer all of our questions about what they were making when it looked like something that wasn’t on the menu. It all looked so good but I think next time we’ll have to get a steak sandwich!
I need to remember that so many restaurants like this are so accommodating and more than happy to make a sandwich into a salad. The ahi tuna was delicious and this might have been my favorite tapenade ever. I’m not a huge olive fan and these olives had such a light flavor and weren’t salty at all. Fabulous!
Of course we couldn’t go out for a stroll without grabbing a couple of drinks. After some beer, we made our way over to Smitten for a little liquid nitrogen ice cream.
Everything is made-to-order and you can choose a flavor plus add-ins. I stuck to a regular [homemade] cone with no add-ins and it was great! They have some really interesting flavors and I think we’ll have to head back for Nathan to try the flavor-of-the-month, Nectarine.
We finished off the SIL’s trip with our favorite Indian food.
I love the tandoori chicken; it’s the first spicy tandoori we’ve ever had! She had the curry chicken and it was equally as delicious and flavorful. With all of the food we had throughout the day, we ended up splitting 2 meals between the 3 of us and it was plenty of food!
So you can imagine I was glad to keep it light yesterday.
My body will be thrilled after a few more days of being back to normal eating! Looking forward to this week’s plan.

Food for Thought
How was your 4th of July weekend?
What’s on your meal plan this week?
Mmm thats one awesome sounding sandwich recipe. Nathan’s pulled pork sandwich looks delicious! However, I’m w/ you & would be getting a steak sandwich.
This week our meal plan really isn’t set in stone. Tonight were meeting up with some friends at Applebees to celebrate my birthday w/ them, and Thursday (my actual birthday) we’ll be geting stuffed crust pizza. I’m actually thinking of being all classy and adding some candles to it. Hahah π
Happy happy birthday!! Hope you’re having a great day π
Liquid nitrogen ice cream? I am a little scared, but at the same time that looks awesome, so kinda wanna try it! I love that you had to make a stop for Indian food, I LOVE it, and miss having it every week when I was in England.
It is crazy how eating out can be so much fun, but after a while you just crave a routine, and want something simple. I crave PB&J for lunch when I have been away for a while! My meal plan started yesterday with turkey thai meatballs, and carries on today with mango salsa and fish! Yum!
Ooh those turkey thai meatballs sound delish! It’s definitely been nice getting back into my routine.
My body definitely appreciates getting back to normal, too! But yum- you got in some really good eats!! Now I”m craving Indian food.
I think you deserve some good Indian food π
I must add sushi to my menu! Soon!
I agree!
Did you make that sushi?! It looks amazing π
I didn’t but I definitely should, yes? π
I love Smitten! Soooo good π
So many good flavors to try!
I love sitting at the bar in restaurants and watching the chefs in action! Also a great way to ask for exactly what you want π I’ll have to remember that restaurant. Might be in SF soon!
Oh let me know if you are going to be in the area! I’d love to meet up!
Your coconut basil grilled chicken planned for this week sounds so great. I too am looking forward to eating lighter this week and staying in. When I got home last night I hadn’t eaten “at home” since Thursday’s lunch (well I did eat at my friend’s house Thurs night but that included Magic Bars sooooo) and even last night’s dinner was restaurant leftovers on top of greens. My lunch salad, needless to say, tasted boss today.
That ahi tuna salad you had reminds me of the one I had out for lunch yest. So good.
The coconut basil chicken was awesome! Nights in are the best sometimes π
